What it is

An ‘everlasting’ annual grown for papery dried flowers. An ornamental, not a food. Included from the historical encyclopedia list so the name does not get mistaken for an edible.

From the existing encyclopedia

Xeranthemum is a dried botanical traded as cut leaf, flower, seed, or root for tea and seasoning. Buy food-grade quality from suppliers who publish lot and origin; avoid mystery bulk without COA for sensitive items. Balances with honey or dates in warm drinks when used as food sweetening. When substituting dried Xeranthemum for fresh, use about one-third the volume and bloom in fat or hot water before adding acid or dairy.
